I know there are 2 different style harmonic balancers but when I verified when #1 is at TDC the timing mark is pointing at 0* on the timing mark.

The fitting on the carb you have the vac adv connected to is full manifold vac. The fitting you have the canister connected to should be "ported". The early 283 and 327 small-blocks used smaller diameter balancers – generally around 6-3/4-inch in diameter. We found a suitable replacement balancer that was very affordable.

Then you just use the light and reset so that your timing marks are tdc and your 10* is automatically compensated for. NEVER argue with a stupid person. If the timing is showing 50's to get it started you are using the wrong timing marks. Chevy had several timing tab locations. You need to determine top dead center to find out what configuration you have. The ballancer you have has 4 timing marks or 4 key ways in it?
